Video Games
I was extremely intrigued when I first found out that we were reading a book about how video games teach us about learning. I was excited about reading this book because is different than most books teachers assign students to read. This book has a topic that we can actually relate to. So far, the “claim” that I have been most interested in is that students need to learn in school like they learn video games. As a kid, I loved playing video games. I would not sit there and play for very long because I would get bored after awhile even though I really enjoyed playing them. My little brother, on the other hand, could sit there all day and never stop playing. I completely agree with Gee when he says that children will put in the time and effort to learn a video game but will not put that same amount of time and effort into their schoolwork. I cannot wait to read more because I want to know why Gee believes that students learn from video games. Why do kids take the time to figure out how to solve a video game but will not take the time to figure out their schoolwork? Hopefully, as I continue reading my question will be answered.
